Tomatoes of Delight

We took part in the annual Writeaway conference last Friday. This years theme was celebrating ‘all that’s delightful‘ in children’s books. With a subject like that we could have been there for weeks, so it was a packed programme, with plenty of wise words from lots of fascinating speakers.

After talking Monster Tomatoes, Karen turned one of the guests (the lovely Sara Stanley), into a very speedy runner bean, here she is – thank you Sara!

Student Teachers Can Sing!

We talked to a lecture hall full of student teachers in Birmingham the other week. Here we are looking surprised in front of some bookshelves at the event’s roving bookshop.

Writeaway Birmingham

It was a great trip organised by Nikki Gamble of Write Away to help introduce new teachers to the wonders and possibilities of picture books. Thanks to everyone for making us so welcome and for the pink and yellow cakes. Despite Jim’s dodgy ukulele playing, by the end of the day everyone had the ‘Grow, Grow, Grow Monster Tomato!’ song firmly lodged in their heads. Success!

You can find out more information about Write Away and Nikki’s amazing work here. There’s also a great teaching guide for the first 2 Stripy Horse books with outlines for movement and writing lessons here.
