Stripy War Horse

This week we were asked to decorate paper horses for display on the remembrance wall at a new exhibition illustrating the real life stories behind Michael Morpurgo’s ‘War Horse’. The exhibition features material from the fantastic War Horse stage production and interactive displays commemorating horses like Joey and the soldiers who depended on them.

Karen’s poppy field horse is named ‘Fife’ after her birthplace, where there are lots of farms and horses, while Jim’s stripy horse ‘Heart of Gold’ is named after a line from the Henry Chappell war poem written on it.

See if you can spot our horses and add your own to the remembrance wall, when the exhibition opens on 22nd October at the National Army Museum in London.

A Stripy Time at the Just So Festival

The final stop on our mini-tour this Summer was the ‘Just So Festival’ near Stafford, and what better place to end our trip than a magical, leafy wood? There were so many exciting things to do and hideaway places to explore. Some top ‘clip-clopping’ too on the tent’s wooden floorboards during our event. Thanks to everyone who joined in – what a stampede! Here we were are looking surprised and befuddled at the Waterstones tent afterwards…

We took Stripy Horse on a tour of the site in the afternoon. Here he is below, and look: Karen has learnt the impressive art of umbrella juggling…

Saturday night’s headline band were the Lovely Eggs and they were ace – there aren’t enough songs about ‘sausage roll thumbs’. We watched the movers and shakers dancing down at the front before waving goodbye.

So, the nights are drawing in again, but keep checking back for more exciting Stripy news this Autumn. We’ll be at a couple of events in October too – more news on these soon…

Stripy Trip to the Edinburgh Festival

The sun came out at the last minute, to dry up the soggy grass and make our day at the Edinburgh Book Festival a lovely warm one. Thanks to everyone who came along, we were a bit nervous in front of so many people, but you all made us very welcome and sang your heads off too! Hello Yvonne – hope your new friend is settling in?

Afterwards Stripy Horse took us along to the newly re-opened National Museum of Scotland, which is full of almost as many incredible things as his Bric-a-Brac Shop. We learned all about Dodos and Kakapos and saw an enormous Sun Fish – go and have a look if you get the chance, its nearly as big as a bus! On the way home he said hello to Greyfriars Bobby and met some very different, but just as colourful horses…

…and we’ve just come back from a packed Lollibop Festival in Regents Park, where the sun shone just long enough for Stripy Horse to have his photo taken when we arrived!

We’re off up to Edinburgh next week – hope to see some of you at the book festival there or at the Just So Festival in Stafford the week after. Fingers crossed for some proper Summer weather…
