Stripy Springtime in York!

A big HELLO to everyone at Grove Park School in York! We had a fantastic time when we visited a few weeks ago. Take a look at some of the children’s handiwork below – so many beautiful Stripy Horses!…

Thanks to Mike Tipping at York Press for this picture of us all too…

And we mustn’t forget to mention Tim, Philippa and Sam of the Little Apple Bookshop (just by the Minster – pop in pay them a visit!). They organised our visit to Grove Park and treated us to a very tasty Turlu Turlu – YUM!

Spring was just beginning then, but now its in full swing so next time we’ll have some news on a special new Stripy baby book due to be published in May…

Spot The Real Stripy Horse…

We visited St Monica Infant school in Southampton a few weeks ago and were amazed to see so many superbly stripy flower pot horses lined up to greet us!

The children had all been making their own versions of Hermann, Muriel and Roly and Pitch too. Many thanks to Louise Ripley and all at St Monica’s for a wonderful day and for showing us all their fantastic creations.

We’ll be adding some more Stripy craft idea and projects to the fun stuff section of our website very soon, so keep checking here if you’re feeling creative…

Save Sydenham Library

Yesterday we took part in a special event at our local library, which is under the threat of closure. The place was packed with people, all there to lend their support and listen to the various author readings and speeches. Thanks to Louise Brooks for doing such a great job of organising things and to everyone who helped us sing our Monster Tomato song.

Let’s hope this nationwide day of action, to save libraries all over the country, can make a difference. Libraries were really important to Karen and I when we were growing up. They played a vital role in inspiring us to write and illustrate books of our own. Without them, Stripy Horse might not have seen the light of day.

Here we are before they released lots of balloons to mark the end of the event…

Put on Your Imagining Hats!

It’s cold outside so Karen’s been wrapped up indoors creating some artwork for the new Write Away ‘Just Imagine’ story centre.

The centre is based in the old Anglia Television building in Chelmsford, Essex and will house a specialist children’s bookshop, an event space and a storytelling theatre – the perfect place for anyone passionate about children’s books!

The illustration is part of an imaginative alphabet letter wall that’s on permanent display. Visitors can guess who illustrated each letter when the centre opens in the new year (contributers include Tony Ross and David Melling among others), but you can get a sneak preview as some of the letters are revealed in an alphabet advent on the ‘Just Imagine’ facebook page here.

Thank You Godstowe School!

A big hello to everyone at Godstowe School in High Wycombe – thanks so much for making us so welcome the other week (we love our mugs!)

Here’s Karen reading and drawing some of the class as their favourite vegetables. One day somebody may pick an aubergine, but until then its good to know that everyone loves broccoli…
